The City of Austin has emerged as a leader in the energy conservation effort by implementing their Energy Conservation Audit .

The City of Austin has emerged as a leader in the energy conservation effort by implementing their Energy Conservation Audit and Disclosure Ordinance which takes effect on June 1, 2009.

This ordinance will require single family properties that are ten years or older, located within the Austin City Limits and receiving electric services from Austin Energy to have an energy audit prior to selling. In creating the ECAD ordinance, Austin Energy hopes toreduce energy usage by 700 megawatts by 2020 which would essentially eliminate a power plant’s worth of energy from being consumed.
