The Energy Audit Process
Survey and energy bills
Organizations interested in an energy audit will complete a short survey and submit all energy bills (excluding water) for the most recent 12 consecutive months.
Preliminary site visit
After preliminary analysis of energy survey and energy bills, Ewrs will arrange a facility visit to view the building and acquire an overview of the building's use and processes within.
Proposal
Ewrs will prepare a proposal for the approval of the authorizing officer of the organization. The proposal includes a summary of the audit work to be completed and pricing information. Once signed, the proposal is a binding contract. Partial payment (the terms of which are disclosed in the proposal) is due upon signing of the proposal. It is useful if building plans (footprint, electrical and mechanical schedules) are made available to Ewrs at this time.
Site visit
Ewrs audit team completes a thorough site visit and energy interview. The team will complete a full equipment inventory, including all major energy-consuming equipment and lighting, and take photographs of the building. Energy Management Systems follows all safety and security requirements and can be escorted, if necessary.
Engineering and analysis
The information obtained from the energy bills, energy interview, and site visit is compiled by our staff of professional engineers for analysis.
Review with client
A member of the Ewrs audit team will review the audit report then a member of the organization either in person or via conference call to recommend measures and answer any questions.
For a simple overview audit, an energy audit will usually only take half a day to do a walkthrough, and about two weeks to calculate savings and prepare a report.
For an Level 1 audit on a facility sized around 100,000 sq ft, an energy audit will probably take up to one day to complete a walkthrough, and less than month to calculate savings and prepare a report.
For a more in-depth Level 2 audit on a facility sized around 100,000 sq ft, an energy audit will probably take two days to complete a walkthrough, and less than month to calculate savings and prepare a report.
For the most in-depth audit possible, the investment-grade audit, on a facility sized around 100,000 sq ft, an energy audit will generally involve a three to six day walkthrough, and anywhere from one to two months to complete a report.
If you have a smaller or larger facility, an industrial facility, or if you have a facility with an unusually high number of energy-consuming devices, the time required to complete an audit can vary greatly.
